What Is LASIK Co-Management?

LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) is the most commonly performed refractive surgery in the world. A laser precisely reshapes the cornea to correct myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism.

Who Needs This Service

Adults over 18‑21 with stable prescription (less than 0.50D change in two years), adequate corneal thickness, no significant dry eye, and no corneal irregularities. Good candidates are motivated to reduce or eliminate dependence on glasses and contacts and have realistic expectations.

What to Expect

Pre-operative evaluation: comprehensive eye exam — comprehensive exam, corneal topography, corneal thickness (pachymetry), pupil size, dry eye evaluation, and thorough discussion of expectations and alternatives. If a good candidate, we coordinate a surgical consultation with one of our trusted LASIK surgeon partners. Post-operative follow-up typically includes visits at 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year.

Why Choose Us

We partner with experienced, board-certified refractive surgeons with excellent outcomes data. Our comprehensive pre-operative evaluation ensures you are a true LASIK candidate before proceeding. Post-operative care in our familiar practice provides continuity and convenient follow-up.

Insurance & Cost for LASIK Co-Management

LASIK and refractive surgery are elective procedures not covered by vision or medical insurance. Pre-operative evaluation and post-operative co-management at our office may have fees covered separately. Many patients use FSA or HSA funds to pay for LASIK with pre-tax dollars. Typically covered: • Pre-operative candidacy evaluation (may be a separate fee) • Post-operative follow-up co-management visits Often out-of-pocket: • LASIK surgical fee (paid to surgical center) • Pre-operative testing package • Enhancement procedures if needed

Coverage varies by plan — we verify your benefits before treatment

Frequently Asked Questions About LASIK Co-Management

Am I a good candidate for LASIK?

Only a thorough pre-operative evaluation can determine candidacy. Key factors include age, prescription stability, corneal thickness, and corneal shape. Dry eye and certain corneal conditions can disqualify candidates.

What are the risks of LASIK?

LASIK is one of the safest surgical procedures performed. Serious complications are rare (less than 1%). Common side effects include dry eye and nighttime glare/halos, most of which improve within 3‑6 months.

What is the difference between LASIK and PRK?

LASIK creates a corneal flap before laser treatment; PRK removes the surface epithelium. PRK is preferred for thin corneas and certain professions (military, contact sports). Recovery is longer with PRK but results are equivalent long-term.

How long does LASIK last?

LASIK permanently corrects your current prescription. However, normal age-related changes (presbyopia in your 40s, occasional myopia fluctuations) can affect vision over time.

Is LASIK covered by insurance?

LASIK is considered elective and is not covered by vision or medical insurance. Many patients use FSA or HSA funds. We provide a thorough candidacy evaluation and coordinate with our surgical partners on total costs before you commit.
