What Is Astigmatism?
Astigmatism is one of the most common vision conditions, caused by an irregular curvature of the cornea or lens. Instead of being round like a basketball, the eye is shaped more like a football, causing light to focus unevenly on the retina. This results in blurred or distorted vision at all distances. It almost always occurs alongside nearsightedness or farsightedness.
When to seek care
If you notice blurred or distorted vision, frequent headaches while reading or using a screen, or difficulty seeing at night, schedule a comprehensive eye exam — comprehensive exam. Astigmatism is easily diagnosed with a refraction test and corrected with the right prescription.
